FORUMS - Part 2

Back from working away and absolutely knackered!

Having mentioned Forums, I thought I'd better give some links to anyone interested! Here are a couple to start with and I will post more shortly.

(get yourself a free stat counter while your at it! They can be invisible if you wish. Very useful!)

As I am going away today for a few days, this is just a quick post. If you want to learn heaps about web design and build, get onto some of the Forums and get into discussions. I have found that you learn much more this way than trying to plough through tutorials and giving up in boredom. If you have a particular problem, post it and you will almost invariably find that some kind person will come to your rescue.

Have a nice day!

HTML/CSS/XHTML etc,etc??????????

Do you know what has really p***ed me off about web site design? When you start to look at what you need to learn, all the advice is "Learn basic HTML". So you learn the basics of HTML, only to be told " Great! Only that is going out in favour of XHTML"!!! And you try to make your website as accessible as possible only to find that you need to learn all about CSS - except that there is a lot of conflicting advice out there on how to use CSS for certain positioning!!! Stop the world, I want to get off!! For goodness sake, I am starting to like CSS for some things but why is " center" deprecated? Has it got leprosy or something It works admirably! If it ain't broke, why fix it?

I should have mentioned the address of the site I am building it is at . If anyone wants to comment on it, that would be very helpful. Like I say, I am on this scary rapid learning curve and gradually finding out how to correct the silly mistakes I have made!

About 6 months ago, my boss, who is a dance workshop leader and a disability rights trainer, got a web site set up for him by a friend. The site consisted of a home page with a link structure in JS, no text to speak of, a page with his CV on and a whole series of blank pages!! At that point, I knew nothing at all about web site design but the friend toddled off and left the whole thing to me. Since then I ahve had to learn about HTML, Dreamweaver and a lot of other things. I am now moving on to learning CSS and accessibility. I have totally redesigned the site but it is still "a work in progress"! I am hoping that other learners might join in this blog so that we can learn together.
